Teacher Update
Wow it seems as though my teacher post bugged some people.
Claire: I never said other people weren't underpaid as well. I believe I actually wrote a whole post about how most jobs do underpay. Also look at the starting wage for a teacher with a bachelors degree and you will find it comparable to your position. I'm not saying it's right to underpay anybody I was just posting out of shock that someone agreed that teachers are underpaid.
Vickie: You must have come over from Dog Snot. I am not currently a teacher. I USED to be a teacher. No I did not quit because of the pay. You must live somewhere other than OR/WA because in WA 30 yrs of teaching will not bring in 70K. Fine. Don't forget that you work more than 40 hours a week when you do your analysis and extensions. I am glad that you don't feel underpaid but I know many teachers (especially new teachers) feel underpaid. I think this is justifiable since most of them have advanced degrees and can get better paying jobs. Most stay though because they love teaching. There is a pay off and I understand that.
Update:
Dog Snot has nothing to do with it. I only mentioned there that I was a teacher though. That has not been mentioned on this blog. Yes I realized you taught in CT. I also realize that your salary would be in line with your col. I have also discovered that in CT you don't have to pay for all of your continuing ed like teachers in WA do. WA has a pool for continuing ed which probably is not comparable to covering 18 cue. WA also requires 150 every 5 years vs. 90. I firmly believe that teachers should be compensated comparably to other professional careers. I don't think that can be disputed. Don't forget that most teachers do work in the summer. Either doing lesson plans or attending classes that they pay for.
For the record:
I did not get caught lying on Dog Snot. If anyone assumed I was currently a teacher they assumed to much from my statement. I never claimed to be currently teaching. My profile even says that I am in transportation. I used to be a teacher and do currently hold certification for anyone that wants to try and dispute that. Don't blame me or call me a liar for your own ignorant assumptions.
Vickie:
As a teacher you should understand that implying something and saying it are two separate things. What anyone assumed from my implication is their issue not mine.

First of all, if your read my comment, you would have seen that I already stated I teach somewhere "other than OR/WA". I said I teach in Connecticut. Please don't give me the excuse that everyone else is crying poverty because they are so vastly beneath the CT scale, because the cost of living in Connecticut is obviously higher than in other areas of the country, so we are paid commensurate with our COL. Second of all, I work 6.5 hours a day in the classroom. That's 32.5 hours a week. Most people would call that parttime hours. With regard to the second part of your statement, that I work more hours outside of the classroom, of course I do, but by the time I'm finished grading my papers, and it shouldn't take more than two to three hours IF that a night, I am working the same amount as the typical working stiff who works 40+ hours a week, and certainly FAR less than the average physician works.
Why are you in such a hurry to justify that teachers are underpaid? It's a free country. We choose the profession we want based on several factors, and if some fresh-out-of-college kid signs a teaching contract and doesn't know what his/her salary is at that time, then he/she deserves everything they get. I've been doing this a hell of a lot longer than most teachers so I believe I have every right in the world to comment on this topic.
And just for the record, I did come over from DS. You'll notice I didn't agree with their stand on the liberal issue re: Santa Claus, so I don't know what that has anything to do with anything. I simply linked to you to see what you have to say on your own blog.
I wasn't bugged. I just spend 8 hours a day browsing employment databases. Teachers in Multnomah and Washington County make good money. That doesn't bother me because I can see how it is justified. What bothers me is the salaries the "Administrative Assistants" receive. I was blown away. These Admin's have no required education and get paid more than the Daycare teachers that we trust our 2 year-olds with by at least $4/hr. I don't see how they deserve, at our expense, to paid $12-$15/hr to answer phones and dispense lunch tickets!?!?! I'm just using Daycare teachers as an example because I know several people that are employed by daycares in my town. They have had to take early childhood development and first aide courses, with no reimbursement, just to keep their jobs and to achive a pay raise from $8/hr to $8.25/hr and have been employed there for 3 years. It is scary.
Heh. You got caught lying on Dog Snot so you come here to make it right. You're a fraud.
How typical.
Actually, you very much did give the impression that you are still a teacher over on their blog. Geoff said, and I quote, "You must teach gym", to which you replied, "Math, actually". Anyone with any comprehension skills would automatically see that you're implying that you're still a teacher since Geoff's statement was one that falls in the present, and you didn't reply to the contrary that you USED to be a teacher.
Is this really happening?? Chuck, your a "liar" for not using the word "used to"??? This is getting good. I need to grab some popcorn out of the breakroom and keep hitting Refresh!
No, he's a liar because he lied. Go read the whole, boring thread over on dog snot. I don't think I've ever seen Geoff make someone look this stupid. It's a good thing you aren't teaching. I'd feel sorry for your kids.
"As a teacher you should understand that implying something and saying it are two separate things. What anyone assumed from my implication is their issue not mine."
Oh my God give it a rest. You're really annoying now. First of all Im not the one calling you a liar, Anonymous is. Secondly, your semantics are ridiculous. You never said you USED to be a teacher; you write as though you STILL ARE a teacher. So obviously people are going to assume you are currently a teacher. If it quacks like a duck, I'm going to fucking assume it is one.
And not for nothing, you make your "updates" and replies to my comments right on your blog so that nobody in the world would ever be able to follow what the hell you're talking about unless they go back and forth between comments and blog. But, unlike you, who appears to have all the time in the world to do nothing but sit at your computer and argue trivial shit (witness your ongoing ludicrous battle at DS as you hit the 100 comment number), I have better things to do than to continue this argument. Fine, teachers are underpaid, liberals aren't beating up Santa Claus, whatever you want. I'm finished with this minutia.

The fact that you lied or decieved readers speaks volumes of your character.

Chuck, i deleted my other comments for two reasons;
1. To display the idiosyncratic ramblings from "Anonymous" without interuption.
and..
2. I wanted to let you know that per "Anonymous" request, I read the original conversation and came to this conclusion = You Rock! You gave those bros a cyber wedgie.
Bitch all you want... I'm Out. Peace Love and impeach Bush for crimes against humanity.
Vickie:
I will comment here. One of the morons told me to study at my GED class. I invited them to my class implyig GED not MY class. They implied I was a teacher and I let them. They said you must teach gym. I said math. Incidentaly math is what I used to teach. I never instigated the implication just allowed the idiots to believe what they wanted. The same way they imply repeatedly that I am gay. Just like the teaching, their implication is false but I never corrected it. You see, I like fucking with them. Which is also why I continued their stupid little argument.
Claire: Thanks
You like fucking with them?
They're kicking your ass.
Losering, just ban the fuckwads from dog shit, that is what I do and is PISSES them off to no end.
You're so lazy that you copied and pasted the same statment at our blog?
So we've established that not only are you a liar, but your also lazy. You must be a success in the real world. Would you like an apple pie with that?
As for banning, go ahead. I think it's funny when people are so weak in defense that they have to resort to banning to win arguments.

I actually expect it from mental weaklings like you.
I read too much into your comments? No, it just turns out you are a blatant liar. I said, specifically:
"You must teach Gym."
Your answer?
"Math actually which is why I understand logic."
How was I supposed to read that?
Oh, I know, a lie. A blatant, overt, lie.
Nothing like a little intellectual dishonesty to help your case along.
Not just a loser. Not just a lying loser. A pathetic, lying, insecure loser.

So really, how DO you explain blatant lying?
Maybe your dimwitted sidekick with her sob story can explain for you? Well Claire?
