Do you mean does God go to church mass? Or does God have physical mass in the Newtonian sense? I think both of these questions are interesting.

One, does God go to church? The people who go to church would say that God is there with them, not that there is any way to test it. But given that God is indeed real I see no reason to doubt that he is there in church. Church to God is probably like a weekly awards show like the Oscars or the Emmys. Actors always go to the awards shows where they have been nominated without an shame of vanity so why not God. Mass is all about praise to God so why should God not be there to soak it up.

Two, does God have Newtonian mass? If God had mass then there must exist some kind of God Particle. I'm not talking about the Higgs Boson. Maybe that makes God Dark Matter? Why then is God always called "the light"? Maybe that means God is photons but I doubt it. It is also said that God is love. So maybe God is made of "love particles." This implies that if you love someone you would be firing love particles at them thus creating some kind of love radiation. Maybe that is the origin of the phrase "love hurts." That would kind of explain a lot wouldn't it?

In any case there is no evidence for any of those things so it doesn't really matter. I just thought I would have some fun trying to be clever and I failed as usual. But I hope this answers your question.

Does anyone know the fucking difference between these two things? It seems that many of us think these words are interchangeable. Well I'm here to tell you that they aren't! A hypothesis is basically an educated guess. Something that needs to be studied and tested and retested and peer-reviewed then fucking retested again. During all those steps you will probably need to adjust your hypothesis to adapt it to your data. And keep changing things until you get it right. Then and only then does your hypothesis graduate into becoming a theory.

So the next time you hear "blank is just a theory." You can tell that person to get their fucking definitions straight before they open their big fat pie holes. Maybe read something about the topic first. It's not hard. You can read right?

Today at work I did just a couple minutes of research about hydrogen fuel cells and this so called "Hydrogen Economy" that we keep hearing so much about. I wanted to see how well hydrogen stacked up against what I knew about the efficiency of pure electric systems for transportation. (cars stupid) Just a couple Google searched led me to this article by Ulf Bossel. I have never heard of this dude before but I can already tell that I like him. You don't have to read the whole thing to get this point and I don't recommend reading the whole thing because your brain might explode. All you need to do is scroll down to the top of page 3 where he gets to the good part. Below is a quick summary of the very bad news for all the people who ignorantly backed hydrogen as the "Fuel of the Future."

Power Plant to Wheel Efficiency In Cars
Gaseous Hydrogen Fuel Cell 22%
Liquid Hydrogen Fuel Cell 17%
Hybrid Diesel 25%
Hybrid Diesel W/ SOHC Extender 33%

So why do the big car companies seem so hot for hydrogen fuel cell cars? They know all this shit. Don't fool yourself. They want to keep building the same old thing they always have. They know how to do that. They know how to make money at that. Except Ford I guess who is losing billions of dollars every year. They don't think they are going to make as much money selling electric cars. Now, why is that I wonder? Electric cars have far fewer moving parts. They don't need: air filters, radiators, coolant, transmissions, oil changes, timing chains, etc. No explosions, no exhaust pipes And they don't need tune-ups. They are simpler to build and way easier to maintain. Sounds great doesn't it? The car companies don't think so. That is FACT.

If the people were properly informed about this they would be screaming for these cars. Imagine spending less than $40 for a whole month of driving, not just a tank of gas. This stuff scares the pants of a lot of big industries. That is why there are no retailers selling these cars. All the technology is there. No R&D needed and battery technology is only going to get better and better but the batteries we have now will work just fine. The car companies know that if they back hydrogen it will be years and years before the technology will be ready and they will have to start actually building anything. That is precisely what they want. Is that what you want?

Huge post on nuclear energy

I work in the energy industry as well as having a very strong personal interested in global climate change and alternative energy. I simply don't understand why we are still building coal and gas powered generation plant. We have economically equivalent options that are much much better fro this planet. One of these alternatives is nuclear power. France has it right on this one and we need to pull out heads out of our strip mines and get on this band wagon.

I have read this article on nuclear power and my bullshit-o-meter gives it an initial passing grade. I plan to do a complete fact check soon as an exercise. I will post the results once they are complete. (edit) Fuck that it's too much work right now and I don't have the time. (end edit) Please read this article and send it to everyone you know. We need to get the word out and squash these stupid misconceptions about this source of energy.

Jaron Lanier writes a regular column in Discover magazine. The recent issue contained an article that referred to an op/ed piece he wrote for Edge earlier this year. I went back and read the Edge article as well. They both deal with collective intelligence and how crowd theory relates to our current age of collaborative web pages like Wikipedia. I think they are both very interesting articles and relate somewhat to the discussion Adam, Ana and I had on the last podcast. I highly recommend reading them in their entirety but will reprint a couple of highlights here.

I think that there are some good questions here. If we are moving to a digital media source for news then where are our reporters going to come from? Just as important, who is going to pay for their contributions? Finally, if we are going to be using collective sources then how do we know the true value of the information we are getting? If we are going to have reliable and trustworthy sources of information on the Internet replacing the traditional newspapers and networks these are questions that will need to be addressed.

Olbermann: the beginning of the end of America

I'm wondering why in the hell MSNBC keeps letting Keith Olbermann make these types of editorial asides. I don't believe for one minute that MSNBC's management is just giving the editorial department a free hand. That type of journalism has been dead for a long time. For a look into the past checkout the movie "Good Night and Good Luck". I liked it but my wife fell asleep about half way through. Probly sooner than that but she always falls asleep during movies. Damn this pregnancy thing.

Ok back on topic. MSNBC must feel that because they have singled out one commentator to make these saditous speeches they can claim to they corporate sponsors and advertisers that Mr. Olbermann speaks just for himslf and not for the network while at the same time apearing to be a like a Edward R. Murrow of old to lure in young and openminded people like me. Well probly not like me. I'm not openminded, especially when it comes to MSNBC or any other news network. I just don't trust those fuckers no matter how many speeches Olbermann gives telling us how fucked up George W. Bush is. I truly don't believe that they know what they are doing. Case in point, the above video. MSNBC is making no money off it and has no real control over it. They would never do something like that knowingly, which is why I can't trust them.

Until the days of the internet and the blogosphere corporate bias and left or right slant is something that we had to just accept about tv news and newspapers. But not anymore. Keith Olberman shouldn't be on MSNBC. He should be his own station all on his own. Independent and free to rant till he's blue in the face or not but his words would stand on their own merit without the billboard of MSNBC behind it. And so should everyone else. In my lifetime I believe this will be the case. Personal publishing will kill news networks. It must. End rant now.

Here is our first batch of home brew. We started it on Sunday so this is day three of the fermentation process. Sometime when it isn't as dark I'll try to get a better picture. We decided to brew an Irish Red for our first batch. We'll drink our asses off and let you know if it's any good the first chance we get to Podcast after it is finished. Should be about 5 weeks.

So I just read a story about women who postponed their births in order to not delivery children on 6/6/06.

Let me explain something. Yesterday was 6/6/2006. There is a very big difference between 662006 and 666. Even if you wanted to abreviate it would still be 6606 which is still quite different than 666. This is just dumb.

Hey guess what... All the numbers on a roulette wheel add up to 666. I can never play roulette again. It is the beast's game.

Every time I read Scott Adam's Dilbert Blog it is extremely funny, contains intriguing ideas or both. The both part can end up being creepy in a weird way but that's just the way I like it. This particular post describes his fantasy about what he would do if he was the President. Let me put it to you this way. If he would ever run for President I would vote for him but that will never happen, by his own admission, and it also tells you how much I think my vote is worth these days.

Here is a picture from my friend Greg's MRI he had last week because he had a seizure about 3 weeks ago and crashed the pizza delivery car he was driving into a McDonald's. No, this is not going to be a funny blog entry. Today he has an appointment to see a freaking brain surgeon. We will know more this afternoon.

I just want to write this to try and build up some positive energy for my friend who is going though this really hard time. Just keep him in your thoughts if you can.
