White House Doesn't Support Fast Food Lawsuits
So this is the main point that concerns me.
"Leading business groups and the White House back the bill. The White House in a statement said, "Food manufacturers, marketers, distributors, advertisers and sellers should not be held liable for injury because a person's consumption of legal, unadulterated food is associated with the person's weight gain or obesity."
I agree that people should be held responsible for their own obesity. However, when the white house and congress bow to industry in order to hide scientific fact from the public it is a little harder to hold them responsible. If our government suppresses facts about sugar and fast food from National Institute of Health studies because of industry pressure isn't it hard for the public to get the information they need to be safe? I know it's common sense. Yes it is. However, you have congress suppressing reports that confirm scientific consesus. How many of us know that drinking one soda a day supposedly raises your chances of getting type 2 diabetes by 80%? Probably not many because the white house likes to hide that fact due to pressures from sugar companies. I still hold people responsible for their own health but I think they deserve a government that provides them with accurate information.
