Damn Journalists

With the recent CA scandal I've been reading quite a few articles about church sex scandals. It amuses me that people try to blame anyone but the priests. Many people blame the church. I understand that but it isn't the church's fault and it opens the door for some really dumb critiques. Like one that blamed anybody who agreed with the sexual revolution. Basically claiming that in asking the church to relax some of its strict moral codes we opened the door to gay priests. Now I read this about the Pope (new pope) blaming the media.

"In the church, priests also are sinners. But I am personally convinced that the constant presence in the press of the sins of Catholic priests, especially in the United States, is a planned campaign, as the percentage of these offenses among priests is not higher than in other categories, and perhaps it is even lower," said Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger--now Pope Benedict XVI--in 2002 when he was the head man of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith."

Yep, the media reports child abuse cases because they want to destroy the church. Damn media. Of course it's not the media's fault and it's not because of the sexual revolution. It is because a few (well ok, more than a few) priests have taken advantage of thier positions and molested children. Maybe. Maybe you could try to say the church has a small role because of their stance on issues of homosexuality and the fact that priests are repressed to begin with. However, not all of these priests are gay and not all priests are raping children. So, what is the answer? Blame the priests who are committing crimes. It is their fault and only their fault. They raped the children. Not the media, not the church and certainly not the sexual revolution.

I do blame the church for one thing though. I blame them for covering up the acts of molestation and for protecting priests who committ the acts. The church deserves blame for this and no matter what the pope says it is the church's fault that it did not answer these acts with a response deserving of they're attrocity. The media may not only report fact, but it is not the media's fault that priests rape children or that the church covered it up.
